Standard lithium-ion coin shaped batteries are used with portable electronics for several reasons. It has one of the best energy-to-weight ratios, high open circuit voltage, low self-discharge rate, no memory effect and a slow loss of charge when not in use. With a voltage of 3V that is almost double of normal alkaline or manganese batteries, only half the number of lithium-ion batteries are needed to charge equipment. They use less space and also weigh less then other batteries. Voltage remains stable for a long period of discharge, which makes the equipment that uses the battery more reliable and almost maintenance free. This spare battery is used in the Tonoport V, a portable patient Diagnostic ECG monitor for ambulatory blood pressure measurement.
